If you’ve ever purchased refurbished video game hardware or used software, you know that there’s a small chance that in spite of the store’s guarantee, it still may not work. However, nobody expects a refurbished Nintendo 3DS given to a five-year-old as a Christmas gift will cause trauma to an entire Lakewood, Colo., family. According to KUSA 9 News, young Braydon Giles fired up his refurbished 3DS and discovered that it was riddled with porn.

Have a merry GameStop Christmas, little guy

What Braydon Giles discovered on his hand-held Nintendo 3DS game unit seems likely to have come from the previous owner. His father, Mark Giles, returned the porn-filled 3DS to their local GameStop location promptly, claiming that the mistake literally caused trauma to the entire family. In addition to reportedly being scarred by the graphic nudity and sex acts, Braydon ways crestfallen over not getting the game system on Christmas that he’d wanted for over a year. This anguish was confirmed by Santa.

Deleting images, uncovering the nasty

The problem became evident with Braydon asked his older brother Bryton to help him delete pictures from his new Nintendo 3DS. That’s when the problem became obvious.

“He said that he didn’t take these pictures, so I went over to these pictures and I see two people in a bed. I told my dad and I said dad this has porn on it and he got up and went right to the phone,” Bryton Giles said.

Mark Giles quickly discovered nine graphic images on the 3DS device, then called GameStop to complain about what had happened. The GameStop store manager apologized profusely as expected, and confirmed that the refurbished device’s storage should have been wiped completely before resale. Not only did Mr. Giles receive a brand new Nintendo 3DS to replace the smut-laden refurbished model, but several 3DS games as well.

GameStop’s corporate stance on the incident

“GameStop is currently researching this situation. We have a rigorous quality control process in place to ensure that existing content is removed from all devices before they are re-sold. Out of millions of transactions each year, ones like this happen very rarely. Our number one priority is to make this right for our customer.”

The full dimension of 3DS porn

While Mark Giles appreciated his local GameStop’s efforts to right a difficult situation, he noted that nothing could truly reverse what had happened, particularly for his youngest son.

“You can’t unsee this… he’s 5 years old maybe when he’s 18 or 20 maybe he won’t know anything about it, but he’s not going to forget about this tomorrow,” the senior Giles exclaimed.
