Apparently some people don’t get the concept that maybe it’s better to just have a quiet night at home.  For the second time, Joran van der Sloot is under arrest for murder, only this time in Peru.  He was last seen leaving a bar with the victim, Stephany Flores Ramirez, who was found beaten to death. Van der Sloot is still implicated in the ongoing investigation of the death of Natalee Holloway, the co-ed who disappeared in Aruba.

Joran van der Sloot wanted in Peru

Joran van der Sloot is still the main person of interest in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway five years ago.  According to the New York Times, he had gone to Lima, Peru, to play in a poker tournament. On Sunday, the body of Stephany Flores Ramirez, 21, was discovered in the hotel room rented to him.  She had been beaten to death.  By the very next day, van der Sloot had fled Peru and authorities had issued an international warrant for his arrest. He took a page from the Mengele playbook (the infamous butcher and Nazi doctor who fled to South America) and fled to Chile, where he was collared.

Flight to Chile

By Monday, May 31, van der Sloot had fled Peru.  Dutch authorities, having been notified of him being suspected in yet another murder, issued an INTERPOL warrant for his arrest and extradition.  On Wednesday, Chilean officials had confirmed that he had entered the country, and they began looking for him.  Soon after, according to CNN, he was found by police in Vina Del Mar, on the Chilean coast, and subsequently apprehended. He was taken from there to Santiago.

Next on the docket

This isn’t the first murder that Joran van der Sloot has been implicated in.  The Natalee Holloway case in Aruba was subject to a lot of media coverage, though her body was never found and little progress was made. This time, it’s a little different.  Joran was seen by several people with the victim, and the room was in his name.  Obviously, justice needs to be done and the legal system must be allowed to work divorced of the court of public opinion, but perhaps this is one Dutch apple with a serious worm in it.
